Cities have an important role to play in facilitating the implementation of user-focused electric vehicle charging infrastructure, said USER-CHI’s Antonio Marqués at this year’s online edition of Urban Mobility Days.

Marqués, Director of Technology at USER-CHI coordinator ETRA I+D, stressed the importance of collaboration between partners, city inhabitants and institutions in making the lives of urban electric vehicle users easier at the conference on September 30. “To have an impact, you have to have dialogue,” he said.

Marqués presented the USER-CHI project and outlined its goal of making eMobility a viable option in cities across Europe. He explained the key role of the wide consortium gathered for the project, including city governments, mobility agencies, housing providers, energy companies and research institutions.

The intervention came during a session on smart and electric mobility in cities at the event, which took place online due to COVID-19-related health restrictions. Also present at the session were representatives from three other EU-funded eMobility projects: GreenCharge, ELVITEN and ASSURED, with moderation by Saki Gerassis Davite from DG MOVE. Each speaker presented their project and laid out their vision for electric mobility in Europe.

Urban Mobility Days took place over four days, from September 29 to October 2. It brought together hundreds of mobility experts, policymakers and other curious stakeholders to discover this year’s theme: zero emissions mobility for all.

The conference combined for the very first time two leading events from Europe’s transport calendar: the CIVITAS Forum Conference and the European Conference on Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMPs). USER-CHI was one of many projects to hold a stand in its virtual exhibition area.

More information, including recordings of sessions, is available on the Urban Mobility Days website.
